Krista Olson
Advanced Intern | Tennessee
Te’u le va is a Samoan concept meaning, “to nurture the space between us.” Pasifika traditional knowledge sees connection or reconnection as the foundational form of healing. As a biracial Samoan woman, these ideas have been an anchor through my learning and life experiences.
My hope is to accept the call to heal disconnection in myself, ideas, experiences, and in all the spaces between. This process is simple, but not easy. My people used whale migration patterns, the flight of the birds, the tides, and the stars to navigate the entire Pacific Ocean. They used wayfinding to both adventure out and to find their way home. I believe life’s navigation tools are available, and we can discover them together.

Approaches that center the individual as the expert and the holder of knowledge resonate with me deeply. Many somatic therapies, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), systems theory, attachment theory, and internal family systems (IFS) can be used in this way. Ultimately, I am open to learning and growing with the individual needs of my client.
I am a mother of three children ranging from kindergarten to middle school. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s of Social work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I have twenty years of “informal practice” as a hairstylist and salon owner. I am currently an advanced practice intern, and have previously served as the Director of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at a social and emotional learning company for kids and families. I love playing basketball, hanging with my family, gardening, and anything DIY.
