If you or someone you know is in crisis, please reach out. The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline provides free, confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — for anyone in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.

Call or text 988.

Trained crisis counselors are available around the clock. You don't have to be in immediate danger to call — if you're struggling, that's enough.

For Mothers in Crisis

Maternal mental health crises are among the most underrecognized emergencies in healthcare. Postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum psychosis, and birth-related trauma can all escalate to crisis levels — often without adequate warning or support. Mothers are disproportionately likely to minimize or hide their distress, even when it becomes severe.

If you are a mother experiencing thoughts of suicide, self-harm, or harm to your baby — or if you feel you are losing touch with reality — please reach out immediately:

  • 988 Lifeline: Call or text 988
  • National Maternal Mental Health Hotline: 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262) — 24/7, for moms before, during, and after pregnancy

If Someone You Love Is Struggling

If you're worried about a mother in your life, the most important thing you can do is say something directly. Ask openly. Listen without judgment. Help connect her to support. And if you believe she is in immediate danger, don't leave her alone — call 988 together or take her to the nearest emergency room.
