What we treat

Specialists, not generalists.

Her Own · A different kind of season

Childfree. Empty nest. Building something. Your path doesn’t follow a single chapter — neither does the care.

Identity, career, grief, ambition, and the questions that come when you stop following the default script. Mamaya therapists specialize in the full arc of this season — not just the parts that come with a diagnosis.

Couples & family work

When the relationship is part of the work.

Partnership shifts after a baby, family-of-origin patterns reactivating in motherhood, the mental load that never quite balances — some of what women bring to therapy lives in the relational space. We offer couples therapy using EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) and the Gottman Method, both evidence-based approaches to partnership repair and deepening.

Our most common format is hybrid: individual primary therapy for one partner, with periodic joint sessions so the insights translate into the relationship — without requiring both partners in long-term treatment.

Format clarity up front

First session establishes individual, couples, family, or hybrid — and who the primary client is. This affects confidentiality, billing, and how the work proceeds.

Both perspectives, no sides

In couples work, the therapist holds the relational system. We don't take sides, even when one person is more obviously contributing to a pattern.

Action between sessions

Relational change requires behavioral practice. Each session ends with something specific to try — a conversation, a boundary, a shared ritual.

Therapeutic approaches

Evidence-based modalities, matched to you.

Your therapist will match the modality to what you’re actually working through — there’s no "Mamaya method" we force on every client.

FAQs

Honest answers before you start.

How quickly can I see a therapist?+
Most clients schedule their first session within the same week. Some get on the calendar within 48 hours. We surface real, live availability — not a waitlist.
Do you take my insurance?+
We're in-network with BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, and Humana across our active states. Out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan's copay and deductible — some members pay $0, others have a copay until their deductible is met. We verify your benefits before your first session and tell you exactly what to expect.
Where do you practice?+
We currently provide therapy in Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia — virtual everywhere, with in-person sessions available in Nashville.
Can I pick my therapist?+
Yes. You can browse our full provider directory, filter by specialty/state/insurance, and pick the therapist who feels right. If you'd rather we match you, take our 2-minute matching quiz.
What happens at the first appointment?+
Heads up — our intake is a 2-part process. The first appointment is a full clinical intake (about 60-90 minutes): your therapist takes your history, what's bringing you in, what you've tried, and what you want to feel different. Together you'll set goals and a treatment direction. Your SECOND session is where regular therapy work starts. No homework, no jargon — just a conversation.
Do you offer medication management?+
Yes. Our psychiatric nurse practitioners coordinate directly with your therapist when medication makes sense. See our medication management page for details.
Do you offer couples therapy?+
Yes — using EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) and the Gottman Method. The most common format is individual primary therapy for one partner with periodic joint sessions, but we also take both partners as co-primary clients. See our couples & family page for details.
Do you see children and teens?+
We see adolescents 12 and up. If you're a parent seeking care for your child or teen, complete an intake on their behalf and our care team will match them with a clinician who works with younger clients. A parent or legal guardian must be involved for anyone under 18.
How do I request my medical records?+
We use ChartRequest to process all medical records requests. Submit your request directly at app.chartrequest.com/p/l/MamayaHealth. Standard fees may apply — see ChartRequest’s FAQ for details on timing, formats, and fees.
